A March 2024 study published in the British Medical Journal showed a 5.5 times increased risk of developing meningiomas in women who had used progestin-based medications like Depo-Provera.

Initial trials

Pfizer and plaintiffs in the federal Depo-Provera multidistrict litigation reached a tentative global settlement in June 2026 to resolve thousands of these claims.
