Device failures

The lawsuit claims certain port catheters—including Bard PowerPort and other implantable ports—may be defective and lead to serious infections, breakage, fractures, or movement inside the body.

Thousands affected

The FDA's Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience (MAUDE) database contains thousands of adverse event reports involving implanted port catheter systems.

3,500+ claims

More than 3,500 lawsuits have been consolidated in the federal Bard PowerPort multidistrict litigation (MDL No. 3081), with additional claims continuing to be filed nationwide.

Initial trials

Representative cases are being tried first to evaluate key evidence and legal issues that may influence future settlement negotiations. The first catheter-fracture trial, Divelbliss, is set for August 18, 2026.

Who can file a claim?

There’s only a limited amount of time to take legal action due to state laws known as statutes of limitations, so it’s important to contact a port catheter attorney as soon as possible.
